About Lorraine

Believing in better...

Lorraine is a qualified teacher with a subject knowledge and experience in English Language. She has over 15 years, combined experience in Basic Skills English, Functional Skills English, and English Language/Literature GCSE, having taught in several colleges and schools throughout the North West, UK; from Key Stage 3/4, to post - 16. Her approach is to first establish the student's subject knowledge, challenges, and commitment to achieving their goals. Her methodology includes, questioning, group work, interactive tasks, discussions, set tasks, handouts, power points, past papers, quizzes, explanations, formative and summative assessments. She has a PGCE in FE & HE, QTLS, a degree in Education 2:1, a MA in Development Studies, and an ESOL level 4 specialism.

What you'll learn

  • Explicit Language

    In this course you will learn how to identify 'Explicit' language in text. You will use your developed techniques to clearly synthesise explicit information or ideas from two different sources.

  • Implicit Language

    You will also learn how to identify 'Implicit' language in text, and using these skills, apply them to extracts from several different sources.

  • Synthesis

    In this course you will develop the skill to synthesise information from two different sources. You will combine the knowledge and skills gained in Explicit and Implicit language to create a holistic piece of writing.

The Beauty of Language

In this and upcoming courses you will develop or reinforce skills in analysing text, writing creatively, persuasively and from a different perspective using a range of language techniques and approaches.  Your ability to quickly interpret exam type questions to meet the Six Assessment Objective for GCSE English Language will be greatly enhanced by upcoming courses.
